Inspirational Prose | By Stephen McDonald

While living in St. Thomas, USVI, I had so much wisdom that it started breaking out in the form of two line quotes.  I wrote them for friends that confided in me that they needed to be inspired.  The first one, I still consider to be the most powerful. “When all is not like you would like it to be, you have to be more like you want to be, if not you will become less than you want to be by settling for what is”.  I am Stephen, a simple man that has lived in several states, toured some of the more well known European countries, and been instrumental in building some wonderful buildings where ever I have lived.

For me, I never made my life complicated and I never failed to put God first and family next.  I love animals and nature and I definitely respect mother earth.  I give freely and appreciate even more.  “My tomorrows are dreamed today for I prepared for them on yesterday”.  Hopefully when you read my inspirational words you can now visualize the type of man I am.  More importantly, I hope you realize who you are and where you are.  Next, ask yourself “who do you dream for”.  It is only after this realization that you too can dream first, plan second and then become the best that you can be by always doing the best that you can.  No one can do better than that!

Behind the author

Growing up one of eight children has it unique challenges.  As I realized them, I faced them and it simply made me stronger day by day. Those challenges were so often overshadowed by the untold special moments that I shared with each of my brothers and two sisters.  With two older sisters, there was always that additional guidance and I learned to relate with women and learned how a good woman is an invaluable companion as I faced life’s challenges.

I grew up as a country boy, living on a sizable ranch just southwest of Houston, Texas.  Sugarland, Texas is my hometown and I will always find happiness there.  It has changed from a little farming town to a booming city and I too have grown from a bright eyed country boy to a successful business professional.  I have always been a talker and at some point in my life that talking became writing as well.  I did not realize writing was one of my talents until I was much older.  Yes, it takes wisdom and a whole lot of living to realize who you are and what you are really good at.

Growing up, I was a cowboy and I loved it.  I did not realize the life lessons I was learning until I attended college at Texas A&M University.  Man, leaving the comfort of home, my family and my church family was difficult, but by then, I knew that I had to do more than become the best cowboy.  I had to become the best man I could be, prove myself in the business world and make the family name even greater than I already believed it was.  I learned a lot in college about life and how to pursue happiness.  I learned that the “world was not going to be nice to me” and I learned that “presentation is 9/10 of the sale”.  More importantly I discovered discipline.  When discipline is coupled with wisdom and hard work, success becomes reality.
